PHY3072Muscle and exercise(SCI)
Professor Colin Gibbs 6 points + Four 1-hour lectures and one 5-hour practical per week + Weeks 7-12 of Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: Any two of PHY2011, PHY2021 and PHY2032, or both BMS1052 and BMS2031, or permission + Prohibition: PHY3022, PHY3042 Synopsis: Commences with a detailed study of muscle activity (muscle energy supply and consumption, metabolism, and muscle fatigue) and extends to the study of various aspects of human muscle performance, including cardio-respiratory responses to physical activity, and the responses of endocrine and renal systems. Details current research ideas on normal function and dysfunction in this area, and discusses new methodologies. Emphasis is on assisted self-directed learning and project based learning. Assessment: In-semester assessment will consist of oral presentations and 2000 word reports on projects or assignments and a practical test: 40% + Written theory examination (2 hours): 60% |
