PHY3041Advanced physiology: control of physiological functions(SCI)
Dr Julia Choate 6 points + Four 1-hour lectures and one 6-hour practical per week + Weeks 1-6 First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: Any two of PHY2011, PHY2021 and PHY2032, or both BMS1052 and BMS2031, or permission + Prohibition: PHY3011, PHY3031 Synopsis: The study of the control of physiological functions examines three areas: (1) the regulation of energy metabolism by hormones, and variations during daily rhythms of the body, (2) the hormonal control of growth in health and disease, (3) the effects of ageing on cells and body systems (cardiovascular, musculo-skeletal, respiratory, neuronal). Assessment: Multiple-choice question test (45 minutes): 10% + Practical work: 30% + Written theory examination (2 hours): 60% |
