PHY3012Neural control of internal harmony(SCI)
Dr Alan Tilbrook 6 points + Four 1-hour lectures and one 5-hour practical class per week + Weeks 7-12 of Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: Any two of PHY2011, PHY2021 and PHY2032, or both BMS1052 and BMS2031 or permission + Prohibitions: PHY3022, PHY3042 Synopsis: Explores cutting-edge research in the role of the nervous system in maintaining internal harmony in the body, and in coordinating appropriate responses to alterations in the external conditions which would otherwise disturb the body's homeostasis. Details current research ideas on normal function and dysfunction in this area, and new methodologies. Emphasis is on assisted self directed learning and project based learning. Assessment: In-semester assessment (will consist of oral presentations and 2000 word reports on projects or assignments and a practical test): 40% + Written theory examination (2 hours): 60% |
