PHS1011Physics(SCI)
6 points + 6 hours per week on average (3 hours of lectures plus a 3-hour laboratory class) + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisite: Year 12 Physics + Corequisite: recommended MTH1020 or MTH1030 + Prohibition: PHS1031 Synopsis: Electrical measurement: Resistive circuits, DC and time-varying currents, oscilloscope. Mechanics including inertial frames, Newton's laws, energy and momentum and applications. Introduction to Special Relativity. Basic concepts of thermodynamics. Waves: The behaviour of waves including reflection, polarisation, interference and diffraction with applications to optics, sound, and mechanical vibrations. Assessment: Examinations (2 x 2 hours): 63% + Laboratory work: 25% + Tests: 12% |
