Honours Research Project

24 points + Semester One and Two + Clayton + Weekly work in progress (2 hours) and fortnightly supervision session.

Synopsis: This unit provides students with their first experience of a supervised research project. Students will work up to the writing of the main research paper by a series of shorter assessment tasks, elements of which will be incorporated into later stages. Intending Honours students are asked to declare an area of research and on this basis will be allocated to a particular supervisor for their research project. Students attend a weekly Honours work-in-progress seminar. Initial meetings of the seminar will include presentations by members of staff on the use of research tools in philosophy, preparation of bibliographies and literature surveys and project planning.

Assessment: Bibliography (2000 words): 5% + Synopses of key papers (3000 words): 10% + Literature Review (4000 words): 15% + First draft of research project (8000-10000 words) : 50% + Final draft of research project: 5% plus additional piece on how you modified initial draft in response to comments of the examiners (2000 words): 5% + Oral presentation on project and participation in discussion of other student's papers : 10%
