PCE2020Development of policing in Australia(ART)
David Baker 6 points + 2 hours per week + First semester + Caulfield + Prerequisites: PCE1010 and PCE1030 Synopsis: The unit is designed to provide insight into and understanding of the historical development of policing in Australia. The unit will explore changes in policing; compare colonial policing to that of today; examine the ramifications of relevant historical royal commissions and inquiries; investigate the causes and effects of the Melbourne police strike; study the expanding role of police during national crises; assess police procedures and practices of maintaining public order; and predict, according to historical precedent, future developments in policing. Assessment: Essay (1500 words): 35% + Assignment (1500 words): 35% + Oral tutorial presentation (equivalent 500 words): 10% + Test (1 hour): 20% |
