Chief Practical Study I

6 points + 2 hours per week + First semester + Clayton, Malaysia + Prerequisites: Audition

Synopsis: Students prepare for a technical examination performance on their chief instrument based on a prescribed repertoire of technical requirements and submit a weekly journal to their teachers for assessment of their progress and a summary of the salient concepts and techniques that help inform their weekly practice. The unit is taught through a combination of individual and instumental workshops. Students present the weekly journals in a final assignment to the School in the last week of semester. Students as required to take part, with full attendance, in an ensemble as allocated as a hurdle requirement.

Assessment: Participation in an approved ensemble as a hurdle requirement + Written (2400 words) : 35% + Practical performance examination: 65%
