MTH2111Mathematical structures(SCI)
Coordinator : Dr Alan Pryde 6 points + Three 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour support class per week + Clayton: First semester in even numbered years + Gippsland/ OCDL: First semester in odd numbered years + Prerequisites: MTH1020 or MAT1055 or MTH1110 or equivalent + Prohibitions: MAT2051, GAS2611 or MTH3111 Synopsis: Number systems (natural, rational, real and complex numbers); algebraic structures (groups, rings and fields); countability; functions, graphs, limits; differentiation and integration theory; fundamental theorem of calculus; infinite sequences and series; contraction mapping theorem and Newton's iteration methods; uniform convergence and power series; fundamental theorem of algebra. Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 80% + Assignments: 20%. |
