MTH2042Techniques for scientific computing(SCI)
Dr Tom Hall 6 points + Two 1-hour lectures, one 1-hour computer laboratory and one 1-hour support class per week + Clayton + Second semester + Prerequisites: MTH1030 or equivalent + Prohibitions: MTH3042, MAT3052, ASP3132 Synopsis: Efficient data storage methods, linked lists; interpolation and function approximation in 2 and 3 dimensions; finite element methods; predictor-corrector schemes; adaptive integration methods; multi-grid methods; Fast Fourier Transforms; Genetic algorithms and Monte Carlo integrations. Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 70% + Assignments: 20% + Laboratory work: 10% |
