Public sector human resource management

(BUS)

6 points + 3-hour class per week + First semester + City + OCDL

Synopsis: This subject provides a critical analysis of contemporary human resources and labour relations management, in reference to the new public management paradigm. It discusses the application of modern private sector management practices to the public sector. Topics covered include - strategic HRM, HR planning, recruitment and selection, leadership and the senior executive service, training and development, performance management, labour relations including workplace awards and agreements, separations, resignations, redundancies and dismissals, pay and classification systems, equal employment opportunity and affirmative action, as well as reform agenda.

Assessment: Two assignments (2000 words each): 40% + Examination: 60%
