MGX5790APEC and the Asia-Pacific(BUS) Not offered in 2003 Professor John McKay, Monash Asia Institute 6 points + Caulfield, Clayton, OCDL + One 3-hour class per week + Prerequisites: MGX9110 or four units in the appropriate 9000-level units Synopsis: This subject introduces major achievements of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum since its formation and highlights problems encountered as well as exploring various structures and procedures established within APEC and the current issues being debated. Other issues covered include the new round of WTO, Asian economic crisis and the criticisms of APEC's role therein and prospects for a wider political and strategic role for APEC. Assessment: Student research paper (4000 words): 60% + Analysis (2000 words): 30% + Class presentation: 10% |
