MGR1070Modern Greek language and culture A(ART)
6 points + 4 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: VCE Modern Greek or equivalent Synopsis: Introduction to the study of modern Greek culture and thought. Practical language work and a systematic study of the language. Reading authentic texts (including creative literature) in Greek. Topics studied include the Greek folk songs and traditional society; the Ottoman period and the Greek War of Independence; the 'language problem'; and Vasilis Arvanitis, a study in levendia. Assessment: Essay (2000 words in English or Greek): 25% + Examination (2 hours): 50% + Language assignments and exercises, oral test: 25% |
