Mergers - acquisitions and financial restructuring

6 points + 39 contact hours per semester + Caulfield + Prerequisite: Financial management or Corporate finance or equivalent

Synopsis: This unit provides an introduction to corporate financial restructuring describing how corporations (a) rehabilitate ailing firms and (b) evaluate shareholder value when undertaking mergers or restructuring. Analytical skills will form the basis on which several restructuring methods for takeovers, spin-offs, equity carveouts, etc. will be developed. Students also undertake a project on merger or restructuring using an actual listed company.

Assessment: Group project: 50% + Examination: 50%
