Legal Research and Communication

Twenty-four (24) teaching hours / student workload 2-3 hours preparation per teaching hour. This unit will be taught using a combination of seminars, workshops and individual tutorials.

Synopsis: This unit is designed to assist lawyers from non-common law and non-english speaking backgrounds to develop their basic legal research and communications skills within the Australian legal environment. By means of seminars, practical workshops and individual instruction sessions, students will be guided in the development of basic legal research skills, critical reading skills and core legal communication skills, including the skills of oral presentation and legal writing.

Assessment: ·Two (2) one hour class tests each worth 15% (not more than 1100 words each) ·Assignment(s) worth 60% (not more than 4500 words) ·Short presentation worth 10%
