Staff

6 points + 4 hours per week + second semester + Clayton + Prerequisite: At least level D Japanese or equivalent and good competence in written and spoken English

Synopsis: This unit is an introduction to the theoretical and practical skills required for interpreting and translating between Japanese and English. It is designed for students with advanced competence in both Japanese and English, and will address both linguistic skills (especially in the student's second language) and interpreting/translating skills. While not intended to bring students to a professional level, the course will enhance students' ability to perform the informal interpreting and translating tasks which many bi-lingual professionals are asked to undertake. It will also provide a good foundation for further study in this area.

Assessment: Mid semester test (1 hour): 20% + translation and interpreting exercises: 40% + Final tests (2 hours): 40%
