INT3020Power, Identity and Globalisation(ART)
Helen Johnson 6 points + 2 hour seminar per week + Second semester + Berwick, Malaysia, Peninsula + Prerequisite: First-year sequence or equivalent or permission + Prohibition: INT2025 Synopsis: This subject offers an examination of contemporary ethnic and gender relations in Pacific Rim nations. A range of theoretical and applied materials are used to examine how diversities within and between different cultures are understood and how ideas about gender, race, class and power shape peoples' sense of identity. Students will be introduced to a range of debates from anthropological, postcolonial and feminist theory. The subject also analyses how local communities interact with global forces and how these forces challenge, shape or define different communities. Assessment: Exercise OR Research essay (3500 words): 80% + Class test (1000 words): 20% |
