Industry Based Learning

(SCI)

6 points + First, Second Semesters, Full year + Industrial placement 20 week minimum, + Prerequisite: 72 credit points + BSc and associated double degree programs and double awards, BSc (Science Scholars), BEnvSci, BSc(Biotech) and BSc(ResMan)

Synopsis: Students undertake discipline-related work in a full time, paid industrial placement of a minumum of 20 weeks. Students participate in a selection process and are short-listed based on academic performance and progress, interpersonal and communication skills and employer requirements. Students must be offered an approved placement before enrolling in the subject. Students negotiate and undertake a learning contract with their workplace and academic supervisors, in response to the requirements of their role, focusing on personal and professional development, understanding their environment at the team, organisation and indusry level and development of scientific skills and knowledge.

Assessment: Attendance, employer evaluation, progress reports and learning contract (pass grade only is awarded).
