Human factors and ergonomic principles

6 points + 3 hours per week + Second Semester + OCDL + Students must complete 7.5 hours of laboratory work in a weekend school on-campus

Synopsis: This unit will provide a historical overview of the origins and relevance of the multidisciplinary field of ergonomics and human factors. Human factors can set limits to productivity, and poor design can promote human error. Therefore this unit delineates methods of describing and analysing complex systems and addresses factors affecting system performance. A variety of methods of analysing systems will be examined. The laboratory program will analyse a number of complex systems in applied settings.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours, short answer): 55% + Laboratory report (2000 words): 20% + Essay (2000 words): 20% + Seminar: 5%
