(ENG)

K Spriggs

4 points + 2 lecture/tutorial hours and 2 laboratory hours per week (on-campus) + 13 hours of private study (OCDL) + First semester, Gippsland + Second semester, Malaysia + Prerequisite: GSE3701

Synopsis: Interactive computer modelling techniques applicable to the control, electronics and software. Physical modelling: animation techniques, display rendering models, and virtual worlds. Mathematical modelling: scientific visualisation eg. of field theory flow; mechatronic path dynamics eg. robot arm movement, computer friendly solution techniques eg. univariate search, finite difference/element. Informational modelling: GIS eg. the use of GIS for plant asset management; data modelling eg. the use of virtual instrumentation for remote control. The software approach compares the techniques available to a local desktop machines with those applicable to a remote machine (both server and client).

Assessment: Laboratory based assignments: 20% (considered as work requirements) + Examination (2 hours): 40% + Laboratory based projects: 40% + Student requirements - DE students are required to have access to a Windows 98+ capable computer. Essential software Borland Delphi5+, access to the internet an advantage but no essential.
