Digital imaging

(ENG)

4 points + 26 lecture/tutorial hours, 26 laboratory hours + OCDL: 8*13 hrs private study + Second semester + Gippsland/OCDL, Malaysia + Prerequisite: GSE3701

Synopsis: The unit addresses the practical application of a range of Digital Imaging techniques in the engineering environment. The techniques covered include the addition and subtraction of images, spatial and frequency filtering. Edge detection object counting and measurement and pattern recognition. The unit applies those techniques to such areas as robot vision, condition monitoring, environmental sensing and interaction and object classification and recognition. The students will use purpose written software and commercial software libraries, to explore the application of each of the aforementioned AI areas to appropriate engineering applications.

Assessment: Theory examination (2 hours): 20% + Laboratory based assignments: 80% (these are work requirements)
