Synopsis: This unit covers the areas of law that affect journalists in their everyday work: defamation, contempt of court, confidentiality, copyright, and freedom of information legislation. Students also consider the application of the journalists' code of ethics to the method and practice of journalism.

Assessment: Assignment 1 (1000 words): 30% + Assignment 2 (1000 words): 30% + Research project (2500 words): 40%
