GPS4000Geophysics honours(SCI)
Dr Ian Cartwright 48 points + Full year + Independent Research/coursework/seminar/reading essay + Prerequisites: distinction average in 24 points of Earth Sciences (dependent on allocated Science faculty quota) or other relevant third year units, completion of undergraduate degree, permission Synopsis: Honours in Geophysics is a full-year program that is based on a major research topic in some aspect of Geophysics. It will expose students to research in Geophysics and is the means to proceeding to further research at MSc or PhD levels, or to commencing a professional career in Geophysics and related disciplines. The project fosters independent work and problem-solving abilities. The results of the research project are written up in a thesis and reported in a seminar, which develops writing and communication skills. In addition students take around fifteen days of coursework on a wide variety of subjects taught at one of the Geoscience departments in the Melbourne area. Assessment: Thesis (10,000 words): 70% + Coursework: 20% + Seminar: 10% |
