Synopsis: Through homework prepared under guidance and class tutorials, this unit will help students to refine their written and oral proficiency in the areas of exposition and argumentation. A series of lectures combined with analytical work on selected documents will allow students to develop a critical awareness of some of the main socio-cultural issues in the French-speaking world. The subject constitutes an excellent preparation for the DALF exam (B1 & B2 units), a prerequisite when seeking entry to most postgraduate courses in French universities and applying for French government scholarships.

Assessment: Two take-home assignments (1800 words): 20% + Two class assignments (1200 words): 25% + Two oral presentations: 20% + Examination: 25% + Continuous assessment: 10%
