Sedimentation and volcanism in crustal evolution

6 points + Two 1-hour lectures and one 3-hour practical class per week, and two 1-day field excursions + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: ESC2011, ESC2022 or permission of head

Synopsis: This subject consists of two units which will be presented consecutively; both are compulsory. Sedimentation: will comprise material concerning the roles of climate, tectonics and volcanism in sediment generation. Physical volcanology: will address volcanic eruption styles and processes, and the variety and characteristics or eruption products.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 60% + Practical work: 30% + Fieldwork: 10%
