Counselling: theory and practice

12 points + 3 hours per week + First semester (on or off-campus mode) + Clayton + Note: Off-campus students must attend a one-week Residential School + Prerequisites: Completion of an APS accredited major sequence in psychology

Synopsis: Introduction to core counselling skills and therapeutic approaches. Topics include the helping model, person-centred therapy, cognitive therapy, behaviour therapy, existential therapy, family systems therapy, motivational interviewing and counselling with children and adolescents.

Assessment: Counselling skills evaluation: 50% + Written examination (2 hours): 25% + Seminar: 25%
