EDF6323Learning Music: Current research issues(EDU) Not offered in 2002 Dr Ros Smith (Co-ordinator), Dr Greg Hurworth, Dr Jane Southcott 12 points + First Semester offered + Clayton (OCDL). Synopsis: In this unit there will be an investigation of selected topics from recent research relating to learning music. Students will consider : learning theories and their application to music education; the nature of creativity in music and its educational implications; issues of giftedness and talent in music education; and critiques of recent arguments for transfer effects between music learning and other fields Assessment: Web-based tasks (40%) based on the distance education material in which students will explore current music education research + Essay of 4,000 words (60%). Students will discuss one of the significant issues in music education identified in this unit. The topic will be chosen after consultation with the lecturers |
