EDF4210LOTE methodology and practice(EDU)
Ms R Bennett 6 points + 3 hours per week + Second semester + Peninsula + Prerequisites: a major post-Year 12 or its equivalent in a language other than English, including students who will finish such a qualification concurrently with this unit + Corequisite: EDF4209 + For DSE accreditation as a LOTE teacher, a supervised practicum in teaching of LOTE (minimum 22 days) will be necessary Synopsis: This unit seeks to satisfy present Victorian Government and Department of School Education guidelines in regard to the introduction of LOTE in the primary school. Topics include strategies for teaching a LOTE, ways of developing learners' literacy and oracy skills, integrating the development of linguistics and socio-cultural knowledge, monitoring learners' progress and performance, selecting and adapting materials and designing units of work. Current issues in LOTE education including PALS and the articulation between primary and secondary school LOTE programs. Assessment: Assignment (1500 words): 30% + Teaching practice folder (4000-4500 words): 70% |
