Synopsis: This unit is project-based and introduces mechatronic design. Fundamental mechanical and electronic/electric design concepts are covered. Students work in small groups on the design project. The unit also includes self contained segments designed to introduce students to the research specialisations of the department (control, biomedical, telecommunications, power and robotics). Students will be required to select a major assignment topic from one of these areas.

Assessment: Continuous assessment by weekly oral reports, augmented by written short submissions and one major assignment: 40% + Final presentation, demonstration and full written report on project: 60%
