CSE2395Perl Programming(IT)
Deborah Pickett First Semester + Clayton, Malaysia + One 1-hour lecture per week and four 2-hour practical classes during the semester + Prerequisites: Any second-semester level 1 computer programming unit, such as CSC1030 or CSE1303 or CSE1203 or CFR1124 or GCO1812 + Prohibitions: CSC2950, CSC3950, CSE3395 Synopsis: The subject covers Perl and its programming applications. The coverage includes: the basics of the language,the programming techniques necessary for developing applications,text pattern-matching and other tools unique to Perl. Students will be encouraged to use Perl-specific idioms that they will encounter in real-world Perl programs. Of particular importance in the subject is a discussion of object-oriented progamming techniques as they apply to the Common Gateway Interface standard used in interactive World Wide Web pages. Assessment: 4 practical sessions, 5% each; 2 hour (CSC2950 and CSC3950) or 3 hour (CSE2395 and CSE3395) practical exam, 80%. |
