Computer architecture

6 points + Two 1-hour lectures per week and one 3-hour laboratory per fortnight + First semester + Clayton, Malaysia + Prerequisite: CSC1030 or CSE1303 + Prohibitions: CSC2010, CSC2240, CSC3240, CSE3324, DGS2241, GCO2812, RDT2241

Synopsis: The internal mechanism of computers and how they are organised and programmed. Topics include machine arithmetic, microprogramming, caches, translation look-aside buffers, RISC machines, and pipelined and parallel organisation.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 65% + Laboratory work: 35%
