Synopsis: Markup languages: SGML, HTML and XML (including DTD, XSL and XLL). Web page design with text, graphics, audio and video (capture, formats, streaming media, event driven media). Dynamic page design with scripting. Object oriented scripting languages. Client side scripting: scripting events and using event handlers, creating objects and using built-in objects, objects and navigation, dynamic HTML and browser objects. Applications for scripting in animation, data validation, data persistence and user interaction. Designing large-scale web sites. Web site organisational frameworks, principles of advanced visual design, innovative web technologies.

Assessment: Project 40%, Examination (3 hours) 40%, Paper and seminar participation: 20%
