6 points + 4 hours per week + Peninsula + Prerequisites: CPE2005 + a further 6 points of 2nd yr Network Computing units. Prohibitions: COT3000, COT3002

Synopsis: This subject provides an overview of distributed database management issues, including concurrency control, restart and recovery, security, query optimisation, transaction management, distributed database design, fragmentation and replication and implementation. Building distributed systems with Oracle DBMS and Net8.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 60% + Practical Assignments: 40%
