Communications, convergence and public policy

12 points + 2 hour seminar per week + First or second semester + City

Synopsis: Drawing on communications theory, the unit will provide an account of media convergence and cultural policy responses. Seminar presentations by staff, students or visiting lecturers will consider policy reactions in a range of S.E. Asian nations (including Australia, Malaysia and Singapore) to digital integration on-line. The unit will allow final semester students undertaking the Industry Research Project to inform their writing with an understanding of media convergence and associate topics (eg. 'digital democracy').

Assessment: Presentation (1000 words): 10% + One short essay (2000 words): 20% + One long essay (4000 words): 50% + attendance of three Industrial Project seminars + presentation of paper addressing implications of unit content for the student's project (2000 words): 20%
