CLS1010Text and context(ART)
Chris Worth 6 points + 3 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prohibitions: ENH1111 Synopsis: 'Text and Context' is concerned with the ways in which human beings communicate with the verbal and non-verbal texts that we produce, with the contexts that shape those texts and with the processes by which we make texts meaningful. Many of the examples we will use are literary: these include Orwell's 1984, Ibsen's play Ghosts and Beckett's Endgame as well as some poetry. We will also use some nonliterary texts, oral and visual texts and a film. Assessment: Text analysis (1000 words): 30% + Examination (2 hours): 25% + Practical work and seminar participation: 45% |
