Synopsis: Concepts of load and resistance. Load factors and capacity factors. Design criterion for strength of structures. Two dimensional framed structures. Continuous beams and trusses. Flexural strength of beam cross-sections. Interaction of axial force and bending moment in the ultimate strength of steel beam columns. Welded and bolted connections.

Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 40% + Practical/project work: 60%
