CHM1639Chemistry(SCI)
Dr Robert Lyall 6 points + Three 1-hour lectures, one 1-hour tutorial and three hours of laboratory work per week + Second semester + Gippsland/OCDL (home experiment kit option) + Prerequisites: CHM1616, CHM1011 or equivalent + Prohibitions: CHM1022 Synopsis: This subject continues on the introductory chemistry subjects CHM1616 or CHM1011 and is designed to enhance the student's prior knowledge to a level which forms a basis for a variety of further studies at second level in the chemical, biological and environmental sciences. CHM1639 consists of selected topics in physical, inorganic, organic and analytical chemistry which are relevant to such programs while still providing a traditional first level chemistry course for students intending to major in chemistry. Laboratory exercises are used to extend theoretical understanding as well as develop practical skills. Assessment: Two 2-hour examinations: 60% + 2 assignments of approximately 1,500 words: 20% + Practical work: 20% |
