CHM1042The world of chemistry II(SCI)
Dr Ian McKinnon 6 points + Three 1-hour lectures and one 3-hour laboratory or tutorial per week + Second semester + Clayton + Prohibition: CHM1022 Synopsis: Continuation of the study of the role of chemistry in life and living. Energy and hydrocarbons, alternate energy sources, organic chemicals and polymers, chemistry of life, consumer chemistry, nutrition, medicines and toxic substances, water quality, air quality and the role of chemistry in food supply. Practical work will include such experiments as measuring energy changes, modelling and testing organic compounds, forming emulsions and analysis for vitamin C. Assessment: Examinations (2 x 2 hours): 50% + Practical work: 30% + Regular testing: 20% |
