BMS3042Human disease and treatment II(MED)
Dr R Kitching (Medicine MMC) 6 points + 6 hours per week + Second semester + Claytonb + Prerequisites: BMS2011, BMS2021, BMS2031, BMS2042, BMS2052, and BMS2062 Synopsis: An examination of disease processes resulting in a range of human diseases: immune/inflammatory diseases, neurological diseases and cardiovascular diseases. Examples will be examined of diseases that result from each process. The following aspects will be covered with varying emphasis: clinical features/diagnosis and management (including pharmacological); use of molecular/cell biology and models of disease to elucidate pathogenesis, current and future challenges in defining pathogenesis and improving treatment; epidemiological context of the disease or process and its impact on the individual and society. Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 65% + Group seminar: 20% + Research experience, including editorial writing: 15% |
