6 points + Second semester + Three 1-hour lectures plus an average of 2 hours of practical work per week + Gippsland, OCDL + Prerequisite: BIO1637 + Prohibitions: PHY2021, PHY2022, PHY2062, ASC2727, BIO2716, ASC2736 + OCDL students complete lab component at home

Synopsis: BIO2717 (physiological function), relies on foundation studies in BIO1637, which provided an overview of the normal physiology of some of the systems of the body. BIO2717 focuses on the human as a subject for a more detailed study of physiology, emphasising the close relationship between structure and function. The course will focus on the mechanisms of body function in relation to the maintenance of a constant internal environment (homeostasis). Body systems discussed include the respiratory, circulatory, urinary and muscular systems, and nutrition. The interrelationships between these systems will be emphasised.

Assessment: Practical reports (3 x 1000 words) and assignment (2500 words): 30% + Final examination (3 hours): 70%
