The criminal mind

6 points + 2 hours per week + Second semester + Caulfield, Clayton + Prequisite: One of BHS1340, CJC1002 or approved equivalent + Prohibition: BHS2340

Synopsis: This unit introduces students to a range of psychological explanations for criminal behaviour and explores their application in the recent field of psychological profiling. Comparison of different theories and methods are explored with emphasis on the critical evaluation of the merits and limitations of each explanation. Students will be encouraged to debate current controversies, explore opposing perspectives, ultimately developing their own views on psychological explanations of crime and the use of psychological profiling.

Assessment: Class participation (1000 words): 20% + research project (2500 words): 50% + test- short answer (1000 words): 30%
