ASN3071Theory and research in Asian studies(ART)
To be announced 6 points + 2 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: Completion of one or more units with considerable Asian content or by permission Synopsis: This unit is designed to guide students in the formulation of the problem consciousness. This involves the ability to conduct a literature review to identify key issues and concepts to argue the significane of pursuing research on a specific topic to operationalise the key concepts relevant to sample and to write a statement explaining their problem consciousness. Students will be exposed to obtrusive and unobtrusive methodologies for gathering data, reading texts, observation and participant observation, use of government data, interviewing and surveying. Various methods of recording data will also be introduced. Special attention will be given to using resources about Asia in libraries. Assessment: Written assignments (3500 words): 80% + Examination (1 hour): 20% |
