Synopsis: Overview of ceramics and ceramic industries, including their links with and resource implications for studio ceramics. Origin and chemistry of ceramic raw materials. Experiments with ceramic processes suited to studio and design industry. Composition, preparation and physical properties of clay bodies, glazes and other ceramic coatings. Firing reactions. Production technologies and safety practices.

Assessment: Research Paper: 20% + Assigned research projects: 80%
