Course planning and unit selection

Unit selection

While precise details regarding the requirements for the faculty's undergraduate degrees are outlined in the faculty's regulations, students may find some assistance in the following restatement of these requirements in a less formal manner.
A full list of all the elective units available in the degrees is set out in the faculty resolutions. The normal procedure is for students to select, in accordance with the regulations, the units they wish to study in each year of their degree.
Student Services officers of the faculty are available to advise students on their choice of units at the time of enrolment. This advice, however, will be most helpful if students have already made themselves familiar with all the units and considered what their fields of interest are likely to be. Similarly, when re-enrolling in later years of the course, students should discuss their choice of units with the faculty advisers.
It is the responsibility of students to ascertain, from the regulations governing their courses, the units (including the number of points) required for their LLB degree. The approval of students' enrolments by the faculty does not relieve the students of this responsibility.

Duplication of units

Students should consult table 4, resolution 16 of the faculty resolutions at the end of this section.

Teaching in LLB units

Compulsory units are taught over a full year or half-year, and most elective units are taught over a half-year. Whether a unit covers a full year or half-year is indicated in the outline of the particular unit.

Classes

Details of unit structures, including the number of hours devoted to lectures/tutorials etc is set out elsewhere in this handbook (under 'Units -- all faculties'), or on the Law faculty website at http:// http://www.law.monash.edu.au/

Part-time and external studies

Part-time studies

Part-time students are expected to proceed at half the rate of full-time students and to complete their units for the degree in the same order as full-time students. The faculty offers some lectures for part-time students after 4 pm.

External studies

There are no arrangements for external studies. All students are expected to participate in the classes in units for which they are enrolled.
