A
candidate for the double degree must fulfil the following requirements to
receive the awards of Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Computer Science:
1. Complete a total of 200 but no more than 212 points, comprising at least 92
points of arts units and 96 points of computer science units plus 12 points of
mathematics, as specified in the following combinations:

3. Complete the following computer science core units: CSE1301
(Computer programming), CSE1303 (Computer science), CSE2304 (Algorithms and
data structures), CSE2303 (Formal methods I), CSE2305 (Object-oriented software
engineering), CSE2302 (Operating systems), any two of CSE3305 (Formal methods
II), CSE3322 (Programming languages and implementation) and CSE3323
(Computer
industry issues), and CSE3308 (Software engineering: analysis and design),
CSE3302 (Software engineering project).
4. Complete at least 36 points of third-year-level computer science electives
which include but are not restricted to the following units: CSE3304 (Computer
organisation), CSE3306 (Microprocessors), CSE3309 (Artificial intelligence),
CSE3313 (Computer graphics), CSE3314 (Image processing), CSE3316 (Database
management systems), CSE3318 (Data communications and computer networks),
CSE3320
Machine learning), CSE3324 (Computer architecture), CSE3325 (Multimedia
programming and the world wide web), CSE3391 (Unix tools), CSE3392 (Cobol
programming), CSE3393 (Prolog programming), CSE3394 (Lisp programming).
5. Complete 12 points of mathematics units.
The
double degree of four years duration gives recognition to the needs of students
who want to complete both a computer science and an arts degree.
Graduates will have the combined talents of a computer technologist as well as
having highly developed verbal, communication and visual skills. Thus, this
degree will give graduates an edge in a wide range of employment opportunities
related to both information technology and arts.
A study score of at least 25 in English (any) units 3 and 4, Mathematical Methods units 3 and 4, and a study score of at least 20 in any three other VCE studies. All applicants should be willing to undertake a workload of between 46 and 52 points per year full-time, or 24 and 32 points per year part-time.
The maximum credit a student can receive towards a Monash degree is two-thirds of the total points, or in the case of the BA/CompSc degree, 134 points out of the possible 200 points.
