Diploma in Arts (Australian Indigenous Studies)

The Diploma in Arts (Australian Indigenous Studies) is a two-year full-time course open to Indigenous Australians only, and is designed to assist students to explore Australian Indigenous cultures, histories and traditions. The course provides knowledge and skills to enhance employment prospects and to develop a greater awareness of lifestyle alternatives. The course seeks to contribute towards the maintenance of Australian Indigenous culture and to enable students to become actively and constructively involved in the process of self-determination.

Entry requirements

To be admitted to the course for the Diploma in Arts (Australian Indigenous Studies), applicants are required to present for an interview for selection. Participants will be chosen from those who demonstrate an understanding of, and an interest in, Australian Indigenous culture and heritage.

Course structure

To qualify for the Diploma of Arts (Australian Indigenous Studies), a candidate shall:
(a) complete a total of 96 points of study
(b) complete all of the prescribed units specific to Australian Indigenous studies
(c) follow the necessary prerequisites and corequisites as set out in the unit descriptions for level 1.
To proceed to level 2, students must normally satisfactorily complete the requirements of 75 per cent of level 1 of the course. In order to graduate however, students are expected to satisfactorily complete all units of study.
