Diploma in Arts (Aboriginal Studies)
Course code: 2448
The Diploma in Arts (Aboriginal Studies) is offered at the Clayton and
Gippsland campuses (a first-year sequence is also available at Caulfield). The
diploma is a 48-point course, which can be taken concurrently with any other
Monash University degree course, and is designed to enable students to explore
Australian Indigenous cultures, histories and traditions. The course aims to
provide students with an understanding of Australian Indigenous cultures and
will enable students to become actively and constructively involved in the
process of reconciliation. The diploma comprises eight six-point units taken
from the Centre for Australian Indigenous Studies (CAIS) offerings.
First semester
- AIS1010 Introduction to Australian Indigenous societies I

- AIS1020 Introduction to Australian Indigenous societies II
- AIS1040 Australian Indigenous literature
First semester
- AIS2010 / AIS3010 Social Justice and Indigenous Australians (Clayton only - first semester)
- AIS2040 / AIS3040 Aboriginal People and the Law (Clayton, Gippsland and distance education - first semester)
- AIS2070 / AIS3070 Australian Aboriginal Women (Clayton and Gippsland - first semester)
- AIS2807 / AIS3807 Australian Indigenous Health (Gippsland and distance education - first semester)
- AIS2809 / AIS3809 Tourism and Indigenous Australia (Gippsland and distance education - first semester)
Second semester
