The Postgraduate Diploma in Commerce and the Postgraduate Diploma in Economics
provide a fourth year of study for candidates wishing to extend their knowledge
of the areas of accounting and finance, econometrics, economics, or
management.
An applicant for admission to candidature to either the Postgraduate Diploma in
Commerce or the Postgraduate Diploma in Economics requires a pass degree in the
proposed discipline area of study (namely economics, economic history,
econometrics, accounting and finance, management) with an average mark of 70
per cent or above from a recognised tertiary institution. Applicants lacking
some of the necessary background may be considered for admission subject to
successful completion of preliminary undergraduate units in the area of
deficiency. No credit for work done previously is available in this
postgraduate diploma.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Commerce and the Postgraduate Diploma in Economics
are HECS-based courses.
Students who successfully complete either the Postgraduate Diploma in Commerce
or the Postgraduate Diploma in Economics with an average of 70 per cent or
above may apply for admission to either the Master of Commerce (Honours) or
Master of Economics (Honours) degrees.
The course entails the satisfactory completion of six level-four units and an issues seminar.

In special circumstances, the head of the
Department of Accounting and Finance may approve as one of the three core units
a special unit which is based on a level 3 undergraduate unit taught by the
Department of Accounting and Finance. Students may be allowed to take up to two
units from another faculty where they are complementary to the Postgraduate
Diploma in Commerce program. Enrolment in such courses must be approved by the
head of the Department of Accounting and Finance.
