Master of Japanese Interpreting and Translation*


General information

This program is designed for highly motivated students who wish to develop advanced competence in Japanese and English interpreting and translation. This course is suitable for both native and non-native speakers of Japanese.
Graduates should be able to operate as consecutive interpreters and translators at a high level of generalist professional competence. Graduates should also gain knowledge and understanding of the professional aspects of interpreting and translation and an advanced knowledge of theoretical concerns relevant to studies of interpreting and translation.
The duration of the course is normally three semesters full-time (one-and-a-half years) or six semesters part-time (three years). Students can exit the course after one semester with a Graduate Certificate of Arts or, after one-year (or part-time equivalent), with a Postgraduate Diploma of Japanese interpreting and translation.

The minimum requirement for entry is set for essentially four groups:

Course structure

This degree is available by coursework at full-time and part-time enrolment (part-time enrolment does not apply to the Graduate Certificate of Arts). The course of study leading to the Master of Japanese Interpreting and Translation is a tightly structured program studied over one-and-a-half years (three semesters) full-time, and three years (six semesters) part-time.

Note that graduation from the Master of Japanese Interpreting and Translation will require students to gain credit (60 C) or above in core units and a credit average overall.
