This specialist coursework masters degree recognises the particular practical
skills and mindset that are required to work as a multimedia designer. It
acknowledges the specialist skills in design strategy, development and
communication necessary to work effectively in this area. Students gain a sound
working knowledge of multimedia elements including text, image, sound,
animation and video. The coursework aspects of the degree are complemented by
theoretical discussions on the recent history of multimedia design and where it
might progress in the future. Graduates will emerge as skilled practitioners in
the area and should also be able to critically assess and contribute to the
future of multimedia design.
The units area a blend of studio practice and lectures. Assessment is based on
project work, written and verbal presentations and assignments.
The course consists of nine coursework units, with a total of 72 credit
points:
Applicants should hold a bachelors degree in art or design from Monash University or an equivalent qualification from another tertiary institute or university approved by the faculty. Applicants will also be assessed by portfolio submission.
Up to 24 credit points may be granted for previously completed similar graduate-level units which have not been counted towards the award of any other degree or diploma. For similar undergraduate units, students will normally be required to make substitutions.
Students enrol in the Master of Multimedia Design. The program can be exited after one or two semesters of full-time study or the equivalent. Students exiting after successfully completing one semester's study (24 credit points) take out the Graduate Certificate in Multimedia Design. Students exiting after successfully completing two semesters' study (48 points) take out the Graduate Diploma of Multimedia Design.
