Master of Multimedia (Research)*


General information

Course code: to be advised + Caulfield campus, Berwick campus + Off-campus + Two years full-time, four years part-time
Candidates acquire a specialised knowledge in an area of multimedia of their choice and understand and are capable of using a variety of research methods appropriate to multimedia. Candidates should have a desire to contribute to the formation of new critical understandings of multimedia and new methods of practice. Research projects may be undertaken in the context of the multimedia industry, multimedia design community, digital arts media or a combination of any of these. Candidates document, analyse and evaluate the outcomes/findings of their research project and are adequately prepared to undertake further research in the area of multimedia.
Candidates design, manage and implement a substantial single body of research which culminates in either a thesis, a multimedia product or a multimedia service, such that each option constitutes 100 per cent of the course.

Thesis

Candidates undertaking the 100 per cent thesis option are required to submit a thesis of 40,000 to 60,000 words.

Multimedia product or service

Candidates taking the product or service option are required to submit a significant demonstration of the results of the research together with a written exegesis of that product or service in the order of 10,0000 to 20,000 words. The product or service plus the written exegesis and evaluation are both examined.
For each option, there will be at least two examiners with significant expertise in the area of study that is the principal focus of the work. All objectives will be addressed in the examination.

Admission requirements

Candidates should hold a Bachelor of Multimedia (Honours), or Bachelor of Design (Multimedia Design) (Honours) from Monash University, or an equivalent qualification from another tertiary institution or university approved by the faculty. Applications may also be assessed by portfolio submission.
